It is an interesting article but to say the painfull pumps I've had from using are placebo just puts doubts over the author because it obviously isn't.

Ok well i take it i have been a bit too soft on the author too. To be honest if AAKG was such a scam then people would no way buy into that. Anyway, didnt they say same things about creatine before. I mean like 2000 or something???? Surely noone thinks creatine is a scam???

The article posted claiming that AAKG does nothing for a pump other than placebo effect looks like a t-nation article penned by David Barr - a researcher for a supplement company which did indeed bring out a similar 'pump' supplement about the same time as that article.

As for whether it is a placebo effect I'd disagree - when I first bought AAKG it was after reading an article on GH release which claimed a morning and evening dose of an arginine product would help raise levels and didn't mention vasodilation or pump. So, when I started using the stuff and got massive pumps, it took me a few days to figure out that it was the AAKG because I just wasn't expecting the effect - you could hardly describe that as 'placebo effect'.

In terms of fat loss it does work: 5-6g AAKG combined with 5-6g GABA taken just before sleep (although the issue RC mentions may well 'arise') has a modest but definite effect (on me anyway).

I have just bought some AAKG, I'm trying it tonight. Good research, but I could afford 25g of AAKG a day, it would cost me too much. I prefer GABA in terms of GH releaser.

Side note: When should I take AAKG? After my pre-WO shake? Or before?

    Check out David Barrs website,

has some good supplement reviews on it, and AAKG part 2.

If you can only get 25g a day then take 10 in the morning on an empty stomach. 5 before workout on an empty stomach. and 10 before bed (u guessed it) on an empty stomach. If you take it with something else like carbs it wont get absorbed as well. It will be safe to take with lets say ALCAR.

I've tried AAKG twice now and I get really bad headaches when I try to lift anything! First time I thought it was chance but second time is beyond coincidence!

I didn't get pumps because I got a throbbing headaches long before! Was it the AAKG? Why?

That's odd - headaches are normally involve constricted blood vessels but AAKG makes them widen. I find AAKG, as part of a mix of other aminos, to be a good headache cure. Doesn't work for migraines but I find it great for 'normal' headaches.
