I did think you'd probably be aware of most of that stuff already. I think if you are someone who is quite in tune with your body, you can very easily tell the state of your own testosterone levels. You are right of course that you cannot 'prove it' without a free testosterone count, but you can certainly tell by the way your mood alters, by how horny you get, and by how you respond to exercise and stress.
For all this current testosterone enthusiasm I have, christmas break from training aside, my current diet/exercise/supplement plan seems to be kicking it out very well and I don't actually feel lacking right now, but am thinking about the long term. Two of the things which have definitely helped me up my test levels are 1) more heavy lower rep training (four weeks out of eight on HST), and 2) both a higher amount of fat in my diet and a better balance of good fats.
Have read your previous posts on other threads about your experiences with adrenal stress, and can imagine that simultaneous high adrenaline and testosterone for a protracted period must be pretty draining emotionally and physically. Having experienced thyroid disfunction (due to a virus) myself, I am very aware of how impactful misbehaving hormone levels can be...
