Just had a rant along with Cheef on the new product discussion thread . (MP True Whey Elite Supreme Ultra Wicked Go Go.......) etc .

What do we think of the informed sport website ? Informed-Sport | Informed Sport

Should top athletes really have to worry about drugs in their whey protein ?
The whole thing seems over the top and having to go through pyramid selling of supplements is probably more unfair than taking drugs !!
Elite athletes are not then just the best talented athletes , they are the most molly-coddled media machines .

It isn't what is in "true whey" its about the assurance that it is batch tested. Both products are made in the same factory where many large "retail brands" are produced using the same ingredients.

The difference is we can guarantee it has been batch tested. Some associations, clubs and elite coaches demand this for any supplements used by their athletes\players.

Take a look here for example at the British Athletes Commission website:

    http://www.britishathletes.org/advice/view.php?Id=24

The ELITE range is aimed at the 0.1% of athletes\players who have to use batch tested products.

I hate to say this but £12-13 extra on these new products just so they are tested, thats kind of steep, then again im not an expert in the field, maybe its cheap.

But in the broader sense of professionals using these, the sports nutrition industry will point more and more to MP products for this type of reassurance, which could gain MP more credability and profile.

I can't seem to find this "list" of substances that they test for . The link above does not get through from their website .
This is intriguing me more and more . What possible substances can there be in a tub of milk powder that may accumulate over time into a positive doping test ?
I would have thought that the normal routine of cleaning down machinery and buying only the best trusted sources should be enough to satisfy WADA . WADA should apply and pay for the testing on specific ranges from certain registered companies . Just a thought.....

I wonder is this is due to developments in the US regarding illegal steroids and steroid-like substances showing up in certain brands of body-building supplements?
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/29/he...on/29drug.html

From what I can gather - in a very competitive market-place - certain manufacturers have been deliberately spiking supplements with steroids in order to give their 'supplements' the edge in terms of performance.

Ok so it's now saying that there could well be anabolic steroids in whey protein?

What?! So steroid labs now operate in the same factories that sports suppliment companies do? And people wonder why ignorant people think anyone in a gym is a drug addict!

I urge everyone to watch the film Bigger Stronger Faster...

    Omg...

So rediculous, do they honestly believe companies would spend money on steroids to give away in their suppliments? I thought most where trying to rip people off, not give them products that cost more!

    Seriously crazy!

Very worrying and definitely crazy , not sure what to believe . I wonder if some dodgy US companies would put small amount of mass produced cheap steroids in their powders . The long term growth effect would surely sell more product ? Volume of sales etc ? At $50.00 for a bucket of cheap whey concentrate (or whatever) spiked with small amounts of roids may well achieve repeat sales . If the manufacturer gets caught , they just say "OMG , how did that happen ?" .

EDIT - 'ere we go , the list , I expect all to memorize all substances by 1700 today please .
