  1. Default Why does compound and leg weight lifting increase testosterone ?

    Guys i'll face it, i'm overweight, so much so that I feel at my age it effects my testosterone levels and becomes a vicious circle. In fact if I don't lift for a few weeks I notice a massive effect on my libido and even while being graphic the performance of my penis and flood flow is evident. At my age, I can tell when my testosterone is down, its not like i'm in my 20s or 30s. But I feel the estrogen levels are bogging me down. I get a tight scrotum and receeded penis (like it is really cold) a lot.

    But when I do lots of really heavy lifting with legs machines and some heavy compound lifting, in under 2 hours my tanks begin to fill up, and for the next few days i'm as horny as crazy. My penis gets a lot of increased blood flow as well, and I feel much less tired, really it is a massive boost. I do not mean constant erection, just more blood flow. My cold penis symptoms disappear and I feel I have more vigour.

    So I have to ask, what is happening here ? It is probable that the heavy lifting is increasing my free testosterone dramatically ? I know these types of exercises increase testosterone, but for the over 40s I think it is more evident and dramatic. I don't really see much research on this issue at all.

    Usually I find this effect with timing, if I did endurance cardio the day before and do heavy leg work the next day, the payback is less. If I do 2 days rest then do my routine, I get much greater testosterone boost.

    I have to ask, why these exercises increase testoterone so much ? What is happening in my body ? So far, i've not found much info on exactly why it works.

    Can anybody answer with a bit of science ?

    legs = 2/3 of muscle mass
    big legs = more muscle mass= higher testoerone more calries burned/need =less fat plus hgh released more on average in squats etc

    Yeah i can't quote the science but the basic point is the more muscle you recruit in an exercise the more growth hormone is secreted in response, as your legs make up so much muscle mass the are perfect for intentionally triggering this hormone release.

    Yup. The squat rack has had a bigger effect on my body than all the judo, bjj, sambo, kettlebell, bicep curls, bag work of the past.

    Got to admit I now base my entire fitness regime around the squat rack - if i need to miss a workout then usually i avoid sports to goto the gym, instead of the other way around!

    When im eating properly too (to me thats high prot - high fat - med carbs) - gomad style my libido is out of control - one time i heard a hot chick (yes heard, not seen) and the bishop stood from the pulpit

    i know what you mean though, i love squats and i do them everytime i work out and yes..
    im always horny as hell!and when i spew my load its like my eyes are popping out or something. ii dont mean to be rude.. but thats what its like when your a squat-guy..damn...

    i feel i have wasted lots of time, i have still got my strength can max most if not all of the leg machines in my gym but havent really worked my legs for months properly really overlooked it, as i didnt want big legs.... but now i doo.

    You should look into supplementing with zma as this will also boost your T levels. AI's might be worth a look also.
