After a motorbike accident I had a dynamic hip screw put into my right femur head (as well as other injuries). The recovery has gone extremely well and this got me going to the gym, first cardio exercise but now weights. About 3 months ago I upped the intensity and I am now doing a 3 day split but today I got a tweaked muscle on the right side of my lower back. This is the third time that this has happened and in the same area (but only the 2nd time in the new routine).

About 2 months ago I decided to start taking progress pictures and I noticed that I tend to put my weight on my left side (the good hip), also leaning slightly to the left. Since I tweaked the same muscle today it got me thinking that this could be the reason for it and someone has suggested that I maybe go for an assessment at an osteopath.

I am not after medical advice but just wondered whether you think this is a good idea, or whether you can suggest someone else who I might see. There is a wealth of knowledge from the users of these forums so I feel it would be better to ask than rely on the suggestion of one person. What do you think? Is seeing an osteopath a sensible idea?

Its a good idea in my opinion. Try to get some-one who is highly recommended, as (like with all other professions) the quality of osteopaths can vary.

If you are leaning more to one side it can be a disc issue, leg length discrepancy or pelvic rotation, all of which can be helped via osteo.

I would say go to the doctor and talk it over as it is not just a case of a muscle dysfunction rather a serious accident and you want the best care and advice, he might send you to a specialist or advise a physio, osteopath that specifically deals with rehab or specialises in it. As craig says because of what happened it could be that your leg is now shorter so seeing a specialist at the hospital will put you at ease and advise what you need rather than you spending lots of money.

I take your point about seeing the doctor first elmo, but I am pretty sure they will they won't be too concerned about it apart from saying be careful. You never though so I will book an appointment with them and see what they have to say.

Craig, I have an osteopath in mind who comes highly recommended from a work colleague, and it is with them I was going to set up a consultation.

Thanks for the advice. Let's see what the doctor says before I spend money.
