I personally just down an impact/true whey shake with honey either in water/milk/low fat yoghurt, but this is normally with a meal to help reach totals on workout days. Seriously though, DO NOT worry about it, just get calories.
OUt of curiosity. Why is this 2:1 ratio of carbsrotein in a shake so important immediately PWO? Is it to do with generated the well documented insulin spike? Or is it causing a high concentration of sugar in the stomach for rapid osmotic absorption through the gut of glucose and causing digested amino acids to follow suit etc?
Its something I have ignored on the whole, I usually take 1:1 or even 1:2 carbsrotein in a shake PWO and get perfectly good gains. I'm mainly interested to know the science behind the theory?
I know plenty of people also say you shouldn't even worry about a "shake" and I agree, IMO its more a convenience thing to get the protein and a few calories in PWO before a big meal.

Not worried about it at all. As said I don't follow those guidelines anyway myself and have the same view as you that they are just a way of getting the totals up. I'm just intrigued about the science behind the statement is all...
I think most studies that have shown the benefits for athletes have been around 2:1 carbro ratio.
I'm certainly a fan of having carbs in there from experience![]()

... but does anyone know why?
The completely non accredited science that I know of is that the insulin spike supposedly drives the nutrients into the muscles.
Could be brah-science for all I've looked into it though. I don't care. I'm hungry after gym and a big shake is an easy way to get cals in.

The anabolic diet which is low carb all week and then high carbs on the weekend works REALLY well. An insulin spike post-workout is ideal, but even if you don't get a huge surge of insulin straight away - you will still be gaining. The premise of the Anabolic diet is that when insulin is down, growth hormone is up - so during the week your growth hormone is maxxed out, and then on the weekends, when at rest, the growth hormone drops down while the insulin goes to town on your muscles.
Also, protein sparing - hah
