EMS machines receive a reputation for being gimmicky or fake and are often regraded as an easy and lazy way to 'work out'. So I was wondering, if scientifically these:

    1. Work
    2. Are safe

Would just like to point out that I don't use EMS machines and do not necessarily intend to either. So no stupid, useless or pointless replies please.

    Thanks

The problem is, the device is stimulating the muscle and not actually providing resistance... It is very similar to just flexing your muscles yourself!

They do have one positive though, you can use them to gain some control over a muscle. For example, put it on your rhomboid and "feel" the sensation before trying to replicate the contraction without the device. Other than that, useless.

Yes-ish. These machines are very good for treating injuries and suchlike but have fairly limited potential to actually build muscle. That's my opinion anyway.

Really? Never considered them for treating injuries.

They are used quite a bit in athletics to hit the intrinsic feet muscles, which are quite difficult to isolate/work in a normal way. Ive seen them be used in the rehab from knee injuries too, as they allow for quadriceps stimulation without knee flexion/extension.
