Hi, i'm about to start a weight gain programme and i've recently purchased an e-book called 7 Things You Must Do To Gain Weight and iv been reading through and it is very good. It has got very good reviews so i thought i'd buy it and see what it has to say to help me.

My first step will be to up my daily calorie intake, with me only being slim i'm thinking basically i need to just eat often and eat a lot. But i'd like to use something to help me along the way as with me only being small i find it hard to eat loaaads of meals in one day, im thinking of meal replacement drinks or maybe protein bars or a shake? I need a recommendation for something that would suit me though and also when to take it.

I have also made a couple of goals that i would like to reach by Christmas..

-Reach at least 10stone (never been over about 9st 2lb).
    -Eat properly and more regularly.
    -Fit my clothes better

I posted on here ages ago but i never carried it through and i dont look much different now to how i did then, but now i have quit smoking (6 months ago) and now i am ready to do it for sure! I have quite a bit of spare time now too so i am going to dedicate myself to it definately. The only thing i think i may struggle on is maintaining the supplements or whole foods as it's not cheap and i dont have very good funds at the moment but i will try my best.

I'm useless with any knowledge of supplements or even healthy foods to be honest, but recently i have been just trying to eat as much as i possibley can and i have put slight weight on but i havent started training properly yet i'm trying to get as much knowledge as i can and then go and do it all properly.

I'd like to know what i should eat or what supplement to drink before and after a work out. A friend at work eats chocolate bars from his gym that have 50g of protein in after a work out, is something like this a good idea?

I'm going to continue to read this ebook as i have only read through the goals and calorie intake section so far but if anyone else could give me some advice i'd really appreciate it whether it's on supplements/food/excercises etc..

    Thanks a lot, Kyle.

I dont think you've any chance of reaching 10 stone by xmas to be honest mate. Not if you bulk properly.

You've got to be very patient when bulking and do it properly. Diet is everything, you've got to eat often and eat clean foods. Start by working out your maintenance and then add 500 cals to it. If you dont gain from this add another 500 until you notice your gaining. Also remember to eat lots of fruit and veggies. Dont get hung up on supplements either, get your diet nailed first before adding any supplements.

Have a look at the MP muscle and size page, its a very good program. I'm doing it myself and am making good progress.

Muscle and size - Your goals | myprotein.co.uk

    Also this:

    Gaining Mass without Fat

I'm sure others will add their opinion too.

Okay thanks for your post, maybe 10 stone was a bit ambitious. I know that i need to eat proper foods to be able to put on weight, and iv been reading loads recently to help me.. at the moment i just eat as much as i can some days i will eat loads and some days i wont eat much so i need to stop that and try eat regularly and better. I've been reading through this Muscle and size - Your goals | myprotein.co.uk and looked through the meal plan and it sounds good.. but where's like you're teatime meal?

Also, is the WPC80 a good whey protein supplement to get if im a starter and only wanting to use one supplement to boost the protein levels?

I work nights and never know what to take with me for say a 8hour shift and i always end up just taking a bit of fruit, 3-4 sandwiches, yoghurt and some chocolate or something.. i'd really like to start learning some small meals i could take with me that would be a lot better for my diet but im pretty useless with ideas for food.

Also, iv read eating eggs on a morning is good but how are you supposed to have them? Do you mix them up in milk or cook them or something else?

I'm gonna keep reading through pages on here, and ive also got quite a bit of '7 Things You Must Do To Gain Weight' to read yet.

    well done for stopping smoking.

10stone is possible by xmas, but it'll be mainly fat.

wpc80 is fine. plenty of us use it here and get good results with it.

as long as you eat clean and eat big then you will soon progress. check out radicalry's link in his signature. its also stickied in the beginner section aswell, covers diet and training for beginners.

what ever you fancy in the morning with eggs is fine, boiled, scrambled, omlette, poached, fried, etc.

    Hi Kyle,
    Welcome to the forum mate...

Gaining weight is gonna be hard, but with dedication it is highly possible...

For example see this Link I used to be about 9 stone, and coiuld never gain weight... I could eat fry up after fry up, and never gained any weight...

    Now I am 11 stone..

You need to eat as much cledan 'real' food as possible, but don't be afraid of using an MRP to help with extra calories if needed..
But you need to get a decent workout too or all the calories will just fatten you up more than anything..

For a beginner, I would highly recomend the stronglifts 5x5 routine Link it's a strength routine but would be good for bulking up some muscle and size...
My journal, will give you some help regarding the routine if needed..

Feel free to ask any questions you need answering...

Thanks, i was smoking for around 4-5years! And i just got sick of it so i decided to stop, since then i have not puch weight on but i have put on a couple of pounds and i look much healthier and feel it too.

I'll get some WPC80 when i can along with some MRPs just as a handy supplement but i wont take them regularly only when neccesary.

As for eggs, okay i'll try eat those more often too.

    Hi there mate.

I know it's going to be hard as i'm such a small framed person but i am definately going to do it, well i'm gonna do what it takes to do it and if it doesnt work then there's nothing i can do but i will definately try!

I'v been reading this book i purchased for £25 and it tells you loaaaads and with that and information from you guys on this site i think i should have a good chance of getting somewhere.

As said in that book, i need to do heavy weights and short reps.. insted of doing say 3 sets of 10 reps of the same weight, i need to warmup, then do 2-3 heavy sets max of intense training upping the weight each set doing no more than 4-6 reps. This is something i didnt know so it is very useful. I'm not a member of a gym at the moment, but i am working on it to hopefully start somewhere within a week.. i want a quiet local gym but there isn't one really they're all big leisure centres but i'm gonna look more.

Here's some pics of me now, i don't look much different to how you looked.

I have not been to a gym in ages maybe at least 6 months.

Don't be afraid of the corporate gyms if thats all thats available... JJB is pretty good for equipment and at least there'll be someone around to help spot you if needed..

You actually have a good base there, my muscle was none existing when i started..

If you want to read up about the background and basics of muscle, this book is an excellent read... its what I started with and I now have many reference books for my library rack... ha ha.. The Book Of Muscle

Also see my links below for other useful tips and ideas..

I have one very close to me called David Lloyd but its massive it was only £20/month when i was under 18 but then it went up to ridiculous prices like £90 to join and about 60/month.

I'd struggle paying £30/month ontop of all my other outgoings lol, but i'm gonna see what i can find.

    Cheers for the links mate.
