When doing squats should my hands just be there to steady the bar or should I force the bar up with my hands a bit.

steady the bar and to create a synergistic effect.

when you squeeze the hell out of the bar in a squat, you activate all the muscles in your arm, shoulders and helps you stay solid and have a tight upper back where the bar is resting on.

Cheers. So i'll squeeze the bar with my hands rather than trying to lift it off my back.

While there is a thread going on squats, what does everyone use to ease the pressure of the bar accross shoulders?

I use on of the random towels in the gym folded a few times and rest the bar on that.

    Any better ways?

    Thanks!

    don't really use anything.

you'll get used o it. your body will pack on the mass to protect you.

if you can get a tight upper back and squeeze your shoulder blades together, you can create a little shelf for the bar to sit on.
