I just wanted to say that in January 2008 I was 19 never been in a gym and weighed 21 stone by the August of 2008 I was down to around 13 stone, so it just shows that if you stick with a good diet and exercise plan anybody can do it. Firstly I would say that a programme of heavy cardio work coupled with light weights done it for me. Secondly my diet over the past 18 months has kept changing, but what I will say is the most important points for me were keeping hydrated and making sure that I ate breakfast everyday without fail. This along with a balanced diet and maintained workout programme should see you succeed.

    Good Luck

By all means do some cardio, but more muscle means more demand for calories on a constant basis. I'd advise a good weight training regime taking short intervals between sets & excercises. This way you will have similar benefit or HIIT ... apparantely anyway. I done very little cardio during my diet and trained 6 days per week on lifting. It's probably one of these things that work differently for everyone so do what works for you. either way with your diet weight should fall off.

I agree with it is different for everyone, and weight loss is said to be 60% diet related. I found sprinting on hills was very effective for me which means couple with weight training can increase your fast twitch bulky muscles.

To be honest I would supplement whether on a diet or not and if you are going to be training your body will create a demand for these aswell so thumbs up to the vitamins & minerals. Are you going to be eating a low carb meal for your meal? What are you mixing your shakes with milk or water?
Yeah i thought as much, i'll pick some up off ebay, probably get 6,000,000 for about 20p

Yes it will more than likely be a low carb meal in the evening, my girlfriend loves eating out though so i'll have to watch that.

I'll hopefully be mixing the shakes with Milk, i already drink about 3 litres of mineral water a day so i cant hack any more of that.

The programme the P.T. has me doing is a mixture of the two, but using no more than 20kg combined in any one exercise. Shes also got me doing Fartlek training on the bike and cross trainer, which is good at the moment because its taking ages to get my heart rate down to start again (i get to just sit on the bike watching the girls for a bit). At my weight i'm not going to even consider running just yet, it was OK when i was playing Rugby and i was 18 stone, but do it now and i'll be crippled as an old man, it'll be something i'll be hoping to do in the future though, particularly cross country.

I think your PT has got it spot on as I am a big fan of Fartlek training, and know that some PT's don't like it. I understand your worries about running as when I was over 20 stone it was fine for rugby but I was petrified of running so used to go road running at night, starting gently and increasing my distance and pace as I got fitter. I actually didn't use the the treadmill in the gym until I had lost around 5 stone as I didn't like the fact that people were watching me struggle. Hope it's helped.

    Good Luck

Cheers for that mate and very well done on the weight loss.
I've been using the treadmill but only a very fast walk on a steep incline, but rather than just going for it flat out for 15 minutes i'll start using a Fartlek approach to it i think.
I dont mind people seeing me struggle too much, if i did i'd make my girlfriend keep her eyes shut in bed
