Hi i am new to training in the gym (doing it at home for a few months), couldnt do all the 5x5 as i didnt have enough space in my room lol. I did do most of the excercises but did dumb bell squats instead of barbell. The weights i had only went upto 40kg so i joined the gym.

Ive joined the gym and had an instructor give me the following plan:

    Pulldown - 3 sets x 10 reps - 25/30kg
    Shoulder Press (Barbell) - 3 x 10 - 20kg
    Bench Press - 3 x 10 - 40kg
    Overhead Tricep Extension - 3 x 10 - 10/15kg
    Dumbell Curl - 3 x 10 - 8kg
    Squat - 3 x 12 - 30/40kg
    Leg Raise - 3 x 20 reps
    Abs Crunch - 3 x 20 reps

I just wanted to know. Is the instructors advice good, as i am still hoping to get bigger and stronger.

Also shouldnt i be doing any cardio at all?

    About me:

    5ft 8
    11 Stones
    Slim Build
    23 years old

Also he said to me that i should be eating 3 meals a day and have protien shakes the other three times in the day. Can anyone point me on how much calories i should be eating a day on average please

I really do want to get bigger as i am getting married this year. I was going to pay for the personal trainer but though id ask here if that would be worthit. They are charging 30£ per session. Thanks in advance for your help

Good on you for joining the gym.

You where doing 5x5 (stronglifts I assume) at home but the weights werent heavy enough, so why aren't you sticking with 5x5 at the gym then?

I also forgot to mention, that i told the gym instructor that i was doing 5x5 and the excercises involved but was told that i should branch into more detailed excercices like above. Thats why i got confused as to what i should be doing but if its 5x5 i should be doing then i will continue thanks

sometimes PT's just wanna get people doing what "they" think is right, most are dumb, proper PT's will help you with what you decided

Well said!!!! Stick to stronglifts! Following a well structured, tried and tested program with a good diet and progressive overload will take you far. Also more on abs than any other body part????? lol Nonesense!
