Hey everyone not sure where to start but here goes, I've read the beginners topics and I am still not 100% sure what routine, diet and so on to take on...

I am 5'7" I have always been skinny but the odd thing is I eat like a horse, I'll eat anything and everything I love my food but still I only weigh 8 and half stone!??

My last job was at a furniture store for 4 years so I was able to do heavy lifting there pretty much everyday I did tone up a bit on my upper body and gain some strength but nothing amazing. My arms never seem to gain much size, and also I never seem to be able to get rid of my man boobs

I recently started a new job in I.T and I have no chance of doing any lifting here haha so I am joining the Gym next month but would like some pointers and tips.

I wont be able to stick to a day in day out type routine as my work shifts change everyday, so maybe just points on how to tone my body up and gain some decent weight as quick as I can with out hurting the bank.

For the last 6 Months or so I have just been doing the usual simple press up's and sit ups at home in the evenings after work but I don't see it to be doing anything for me!?

Any tips on proteins, workouts etc will be appreciated thanks.

If you don't have much time, I recommend getting a barbell for your garden (or house if you have the room). You want to be doing the compound movements if you want to see some fast gains. When you say you eat like a horse, how many calories are you hitting? Keep a diary and find out if you don't know.

A barbell, lots of weight - using squats, deadlifts, military presses, shrugs, bicep curls and other important moves every other day at a 5X5 routine and you should see some decent progress. Just keep adding to your lifts and consume some sort of protein every 3 hours. Whey protein post-workout seems to be a no brainer and lots of meat and green vegetables.

I forgot to add, if you are doing every other day, you will probably want to take the full weekend off every other week to prevent overtraining.

    welcome dude.

post up your current diet and trianing routine and we'll see where it can be tweaked.

give us a rough idea of the shift times you'll be doing. with most routines, as long as you are consistent and work hard, progress will come.

you can always get some sandbags or kettlebells to train at home and they dont take up that much space.

Welcome to the forum. Keep reading away at articles and posts on here and you'll quickly get a grasp of thh right and wrong things to do.

If you list the kind of foods you eat someone will help you make better choices.

Gym wise it's always a good idea to get a professional to teach you the basic moves - squat, deadlift, bench press and standing press. Just make sure the professional knows what their doing first!

If I were to be picky I would point out that a shrug has a range of movement of around 3-6 inches - hardly a 'big movement'

You mention protein and post work outs, again there are so many to pick I'm at a total loss, I just want to start off slow and then work my way up to a good weekly routine.
