    Am a well build person, but with a few extra pounds that am looking to shred. I have a goal to slim down within the next 6-8 weeks. I train hard, I go the gym 5 days a week and do about 70% cardio and 30% weights.

    I have always been told that if you want to loose the fat then you need to run, swim, cycle and so on to burn it all off. I recently went to a large supplement shop in my city center and the guy gave me some advice that seems to have gone against everything I have thought I knew.

    He said you shouldn't only do cardio because this will only burn muscle and that you should do weights before because then when you do cardio afterwards you will then burn fat? Is this true?

    Agree with the first part - not sure about the second part!

    You do not need to do cardio to burn fat - indeed doing so may encourage you to hold onto more fat! Weights or high intensity interval training is much more beneficial, less time consuming and probably won't wreck your body.

    I personally don't use 'cardio' in one sense of the word. My only real exercise aside from weight training for fat loss is brisk walking 3 or 4 times a week for 30-60 minutes (on rest days). Have a view of the link in my signature of my article for body transformation contest, may shed light on a few queries you could have.

    Agree 100%. Aside from weight-training, all you really need is brisk walking.

    I'm losing fat without cardio too - 2st 2lb so far in the last 3 and a half months. Just diet controlled with heavy lifting
