hello everyone, Ive recently joined the gym and have a been doing a mix of cardio and weights ( mainly machines, chest press etc.) . I am currently 15st 10lbs and have a height of around 5'11. my main is aim is to lose the fat and build muscle. What would be the best way to do this ? Do i need to lose the fat first and then build muscle or is it possible to build muscle straight away by focusing on weights with a healthy diet etc...

Look forward to hearing from you all.

    Thanks

    reso

thanks for that rash, ive just had a read through them both. What i am trying to work out though is if i should focus on mainly weight or cardio ? because my end goal is to build muscle. But im not sure whether i need to lose the weight first.

By reading James thread, i see that he mainly focused on a weights plan, However he stated that he was not very fat. Where as i would class myself as currently overweight.

Thanks for all the help so far.

James also says that he believes in weight loss through diet and weight training, cardio is only for those below 10% bodyfat.. So whatever you want to do, whether it be build muscle or lose fat, your diet is key. So, what is important to you right now, to build muscle or to get that six pack and then build up? Decide that, and then figure out how many calories you should be eating.

You can build muscle and lose fat, but you really need to be tuned into your body's requirements, take your time and do the research. If I was you, I'd do a cut to get my fat down and then bulk. One goal at a time.

I woul agree with the above if you havent got a huge ammount of weight to lose you can do it just through weights but if you have a bit more i would still do the heavy weights but maybe add some light cardio in the mornings brisk walk ect.

I would train hard and eat well. You could do both whilst the scale weight still decreases.

I agree with the above, i started at 18st 5lbs, got to 13st, 8lb by working hard and a solid cardio and weights routine. Dont let anyone tell you you cant build muscle and lose fat, beause you can. i Have pics to prove. lol.

To add 1 more thing, if you try to achieve a combined goal, dont be disapointed if the scales dont move on some weeks, take pictures of urself and take measurments..

    Lift weights

    Do some conditioning

Eat enough to support training with good food choices

Keep consistent for a good few months

See where you're at. Adjust as necessary.

Bulking/Cutting means jack if you dont know what good food is or know how to lift.
