I’m over weight (or as a heath care professional would put it, a fatty) and I’m looking to lose weight. It seems like most people advise cardio exorcise for fat loss, but I’ve done some reading and I’m wondering if a regime of muscle building exorcises wouldn’t be a better idea, my thinking is this:-

Firstly, although there is less actual exorcise, (3 days a week compared to everyday,) my research seems to suggest that muscular exorcise results in a longer energy expenditure after finishing a session (6 to 10 hour as opposed to CV’s 1 to 1.5 hours)

Secondly, muscular exorcise produces a more dramatic increase in the ability to expend energy, ie, muscles that are twice as strong are able to lift twice as much using twice as much energy (the actual figures aren’t as neat, but you get the idea.)

Thirdly, an increase in muscle will result in an increase in overall energy expenditure due to two main reasons, 1, even resting muscles need energy to maintain them, research suggests anywhere between 10 and 50 calories per pound per day, 2, because the extra weight will require more energy to move around in day to day life.

Fourthly, bench presses are more manly than aerobics.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, should I pump some iron or buy a leotard and join an aerobics class?

    Thanks

if i was you id try not to look at it as an either one or the other situation yes weight training takes less time invested, but then you have diet to consider as well which is a complete lifestyle. obviously weight trainings more fun but if it was the perfect fat burner no one would do cardio as well. and some forms of cardio can be just as manly.

my advice start with the weights and try to include cardio a little further down the line youl getter results than just doing one or the other

    good luck mate

Ditto to the above. You need to incorporate CV and anaerobic exercise, together with a sensible diet.
