I got mine from Fitness Superstore. The delivery's a bit awkward but otherwise they're good, one of the cheapest too. I got a bench, yeah, and no, it doesn't hurt my back. Decent ones are well-padded and built to take enormous amounts of weight.

Free weights for me, even when I go the gym I hardly use the machines, all free weight except for a few exercises (pull ups, lat pull downs, tricep pull down)

Fitness Superstore def seem a good buy.

I spent a bit more and got a rubber coated grip set, but all in all, good stuff

Anyone in scotland, check out Scot Ads, you often see some great deals going in there, saw 120Kg of plates + bar going for £40! the guy was also selling on a comercial bench and squat stand well cheap, all gone by the time i noticed tho

Free weights are better for the simple reason is that they work your core muscles as well. Machines do not as you dont need to balance.

When using free weights you use more muscles than you might think.

Go to your gym and find someone who only uses machines, give them a bench and some dumbells, ask them to press the DB's and watch them fall off

Actually dont do that but you get the point

does training with free weights do a huge amount for your core muscle too? or do you need to train that separately to ensure a strong core?
