all they would probably do is ask if you have any heart problems in yourself or family, take your blood pressure, ask if you have any ilnesses etc. Could find out i guess and see what they say?
Everywhere I look, I see a similar warning to this
'Before undertaking any exercise program consult a doctor or physician'
well it's a bit longer but you get the point.
Just wondered how many people here actually did go to a doctor and say 'hey doc, is it okay if I get some exercise? it is? ok, thanks for your time'
I never went, but my dads always banging on at me to go.
Edit: for some reason theres 2 posts with the same name, can you delete the other one for me please.

I once went with my dad to doctors and asked them after he'd been seen, and she said they'd take blood pressure, work out height/weight to see if I was over/under weight and maybe listen to my heart. The reason my dad wants me to have one is because he had a heart attack 5 years ago.
It can be interesting in its own right to get a check out. I got blood work done so I could compare how cholesterol levels, transfats etc changed over training....Surprise surprise everything has improved.
It's not essential but there is a history of medical problems in your family it might be worth while.
I'd be fascinated to have a blood test with cholesterol, hormone profile and everything else all checked...
Yes, not essential to have a medical, but a good idea if you have any family history of illness or if you have yourself suffered anything major in the past.
I went to see a physio not long ago who did an alanysis over my posture and body layout. He told me that I have a shoulder blade 2 inches lower than the other! Due to this, I have to perform excercises every few hours to get in the habit of lifting it to be inline with the other. If I don't and I continue to train, he said I could develop problems in my rotator cuff as my nerves would become more compressed and pressured due to them being encased in more more muscle mass.
So the morale of this story is I don't know anyone who's ever said they have a perfect posture, and it's worth paying £20 or so to go get yours checked out before doing any kind of body building so that you can become conscious of your posture. For example, I make sure now that my excercises are parallel as before my right side of my body was always doing a little bit more due to the posture error which I never noticed until someone pointed it out to me!
Lol I had a fully body scan done last summer, all the blood tests etc - definatly worth doing if you've never done it before - especially in case you caught something or had something you didn't have any symptoms of - all mine revealed that i had slightly higher then average cholesterol - so it was a good to warn me.
