Its is used for definition more than anything. Not much use for growth, stick to Presses for that.

Pec deck is by far the best for chest developement.
Couple it with triceps kicksbacks and some swing curls and that's all you need for a hyyyooouuuuge upper body. All the ladies will go SWOONlikeWOAH!

This is a little used piece of gym equipment today.

Originally devised by Derek Pecrovomich in the early 60's. Hence it being called the Pec Dec. It was used by many bodybuilders in the 60's & right through to the 1980's.

However it seems to now be one of those pieces of equipment that is hidden away in the corner of a gym and is forlorn and lonely. It has of course also had a very bad reputation, this mainly being due to a guy in the USA having his arm ripped off when using a badly maintained pec dec. When the machine sprang back uncontrollably causing hom severe injury and almost death.

However there is a happy ending to this story as the guy in question did recover & whilst he would never have competed in bodybuilding as a normal guy, he did go on to win several titles as a disabled one armed bodybuilder. I cannot remember his name unfortunately but I'd bet he is on wiki.

So is the pec dec good?

I guess if you use it corretly and its well maintained then its pretty harmless.

I used the pec dec only when I first began training and knew nothing about weights. I didn't find it doing much at all. I guess if the best thing you can say about it is that so long as it's well maintained it probably won't rip your arm off, then I think I'll give it a miss!
