just ensure you have a good meal 2 hours prior and you'll be alright

Agreed, there really is no need for it if you have a proper meal beforehand.

    Depends on your goals etc.

I'll use this example as i konw Meat respects him a lot.

Layne Norton will sometimes train for more than the 'cortisol threshold' 1 hour workout time. Where people say there is no point in doing anymore. Well he uses a carbohydrate drink during his WO to offset this and allow him to train for longer.

If your not training for longer than an hour it may not and shouldnt really be neccessary.

got ya, so the meal, 2 hours before hand, and consisting of quality carbs an protein eg, chicken salad sandwich.
Iv also been having 3 wheetabix an a pint-ish of skimmed milk bout 30-45 mins pre w.o is this alright, concerning insulin/blood sugar levels, it makes me feel better with something in my stomach plus i prefer eating when having cee....helps take away the acidic feeling in my stomach.

This seems to make sense. Normally after about an hour your blood sugar levels drop off cos the body cant release enough glycogen to fuel the exercise, and you start producing cortisol to breakdown fat, protein (inc. muscle), and carbs to provide more fuel. However, if you top up your blood sugar with a high GI food / drink, you are unlikely to produce so much cortisol, and your body wont break down so much muscle tissue to fuel itself.

A chicken salad sandwich is only about 40g carbs. I would have nearer 100g(if not more)
