The only problem is remembering this once you're already feeling the effects rather more quickly than you were expecting!
As for training before going out, I've recently (ish) finished uni and I did this throughout. Its sort of unavoidable. I had muscle gains with a pretty ignorant approach to my diet and regular drinking, couple of people i trained with said on occasion that they were going to skip training for the same reason you were considering, but in the long run they missed out on lots of sessions!
