First of all let me say i only BOR around 120.
that being said my problem is that i get this bad paint in my left wrist when i go around the 3rd rep or so. I have noticed this only in BOR so far i can do scullcrushers at 80 but have no pain.

My question is if i can use a over under grip for bent over rows?,. meaning left hand palm facing face and right hand palm facing floor. i know its possible in dead lifts wanted to know if i can use the same here. I tried it this Saturday and didn't have a paint in my left write. but not sure how it affects my form.

    Thanks

Is that 120lb or 120kg? Do you row from the floor or from a 45 degree position?

I used to get a bit of joint pain from bent over rows, turned out I wasnt controlling the negative enough and the weight was pulling hard through the elbows and wrists went it hit the bottom. When I slowed it down a little it stopped.

You could also try a thumbless grip Ive found that stresses the joints a little less as im not pulling with the arms as much and use the back more.

I wouldnt go with a mixed grip on rows thats just likely to cause an imbalance. Its fine in deadlifts as the arms arent pulling the weights and are just used as attachments to the bar.

    its 120LB ,.
dont you find the thumb less leading to a loss of grip. in the sense its harder to keep holding the weight.
barbell tends to fall off around 6+ reps

Depends if grip is your limiting factor or not

Im BB rowing 95kg from the floor for 3x5 and
When i had access to cables I was rowing 100kg for 10+ reps
I do 11-12 regular chest 2 bar pull ups

All are done with a thumbless grip. This way I find the fatigue in the forearms lower as you arent gripping on to the bar and seem to be only limited by back strength....maybe I just have strong fingers.

How are your deadlift and Chins progressing?

maby i can try with both palms facing my face and see, but i've herd thats quite taxing on biceps as well.
95 is a S*** load mate! must have been lifting for ages!.

i do a 10*3 for most compound movements( squats, deads and chins)
around 60kg on deads, never had the grip problem there..
chins i need to find a weight belt,. 10*3 seems a bit too easy on body weight

Only really been paying proper attention to good progressive programming for about a year.

Lifting underhanded does tax the bicep more but it also shift the focus from upperback to the lats more as you'll be rowing to a lower position. So it comes down to the reason you're doing the rows.
