I do not train my calves, however, every semi professional and professional body-builder that I have spoken to, uses high reps when it comes to calves. 15 - 20 reps, for a couple/few sets.

Would it be worth training them more than once a week?

I do 2 sets of 20 on the machine and 2 sets of 15 with a barbell on my back.

i think calves should be obliterated absolutley deysroyed when you hit them. ie different rep speeds, ranges, weight and try donkey calf raises they work the entire calf even on the tibia bone. and if it helps my leg routine is, squats, lunges, legpress then go to hamstrings and do stiffleg deadlift, glute hamraise and lying leg curl. (usually hit calves on a seperate day) ive added half an inch on legs in the last few months so that routine worked for me. usually 3 or 4 sets on each.
