hey there, ive heard many ways to train your calves. bomb them with 100,s of reps, going super heavy for 10 or so reps, training them everyday or every other day, fast reps, slow reps, partial reps or long and stretched reps. basicly im interested in hearing your opinion on what you feel are the best ways to build compitition wining calves.

I generally try follow Lyle Mcdonald's protocol - Training the Calves | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald

Although I have no where near Competition winning calves! I think genetics play a big role in calves, as I know people who don't need to train them at all. I am not one of these people

I don't like blaming genetics though, so I will get there

Full ROM improved my calves immensely, really slow and fully extended reps.

olympic lifts, and sprinting gave me excellent upper calf development, but not much down near the ankle. Guessing its something to do with the soleus being slow-twitch dominant and not responding much to explosive / high intensity movements

My calves are terrible, I have tried both high frequently/volume and high intensity - my strength goes up and they do grow a little, but to no overall avail, my calves are strong for the size, too - I am going to HAVE to pull the genetic card on mine

Seem to be linearly adding strength using a twice a week/9 days approach of standing and then seated raises (vary each session), 2 sets of 8-10.
