    Hi guys!
Been a while, hope you're all well! Got an issue with my leg - if I bend my left leg the back of it on the outside hurts. It feels like the tendon to my bicep femoris, barely noticeable when walking, with stiffness and discomfort when my legs fully bent. I can still sprint but not maximally, when I do it feels like I've a rubber band around my leg adding resistance to my stride.

Its a chronic problem but the pain is acute, I've not squatted in probably a year either. When I press the are with my fingers an bend my leg it appears to alleviate the problem. I've rested and it hasn't resolved the issue.

I know no medical advice can be given and I should go see my gp etc, looking for personal opinions on what it is and best line of action to take

    Cheers!

Sounds like it could be your IT (Iliotibial) band. Have a look at IT band syndrome. Its pretty easy to fix if that is the problem. Get a foam roller and roll the whole outside of both legs (from just above the knee to your hip) and look up IT band stretches too.

I've had the same pain a couple of times and foam rolling and stretching has sorted it right out. Although if its been going on for a long time it may take a bit longer for it to heal and the pain to go away.

Sometimes a foam roller isn't hard enough because the IT band is quite tough, so you may need to use a PVC pipe or a large water bottle and stick it in the freezer. It won't feel nice rolling it either but do it anyway. Ibuprofen also helps.

    You really should see someone.

Why would you put up with persistant discomfort for an entire year?

Do some foam rolling and possibly see and osteopath or a physio.

Sitting down (edge of bed) with knees bent, straight back, lift and straighten leg. Move foot from pointing 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock, while also extending foot away from body in one motion. Done for 8 reps for several sets, can be made harder by bending back/slumping. Wasn't sure whether the nerve was being trapped/held by the muscle or it had simply become taunt (we believe it was the latter).

Haven't had it since and not needed to continue stretches!
