No. Eating food is essential to bulking up. If you are eating enough, squats and deadlifts will help build muscle in your legs and back, that is all.
are squats and deadlifts essential to bulking up??

No - they're essential to bulking the area they work (which is a lot!) and providing a balanced look, I'd say. You don't want to end up all Johnny Bravo!
They will help because they allow you to shift a great deal more weight than other exercises, though you will need enough food for the growth to really happen.

They're essential to anyone who is really serious about bulking up. Not strictly necessary, but I see no real reason to eliminate them outside of having a genuine injury.
Using this code with your first order will make you a ripped machine. Use with the up most of care!MP2484*may or may not make you a ripped machine...infact it most certainly wont.

I thought you were doing stronglifts?
Doing Legs is !
However if you have particularly long legs then you may not be suited to squats .
Don't do exercises cos some faceless person on the net says you have too . If they dont suit your build then more on and do say leg press .
So by your own admission, we shouldn't take your advice and do leg presses either?
I love the long leg excuse. I have long legs and squat. Nearly all world class strongmen are over 6'2 and all squat. Brian Shaw is 6ft8 and squats near 400kg.
The only reason to avoid squats or deadlifts is due to injury purposes. We do not recommend them for no reason; they are the cream of the crop when it comes to exercises.
If you want to use height as an excuse watch this:
6'4, deep squat. There are no excuses.
