i hate benching, get too bored easily and the benches are always in use at my gym. dips are more fun to me.
dips work both chest and tri's. just depends on the emphasis by the amout of lean you put on.

I have never done dips consistently, i sometimes see the dip bar and give them a bit of a go but thats as far as it goes.
My questions are:
If you do bench press already are you adding much to your workout by doing dips?
and
Is it more of a chest or tricep exercise?
Thanks

Depends what type of dip you are doing. They're in madcows as an assistance exercise to the bench so I did them. You tend to progress quite fast if you've never done them consistently before from what I've seen. Then again same could be said about most exercises.

Weighted Chest Dip
Weighted Bench Dip

Having read the descritions i now see that he is using the wider end of the dipping bar for the chest ones.
Should have really posted these links instead:
Chest Dip
Triceps Dip
Sorry.
I'd try them both out and see which one you like better. I try to limit my lean because I bench on the same day and just want to work my arms more before the weekend kicks in!

I find that if you train a 4 day split of upper/lower then bench on one upper session with dips on the other - they complement each other nicely.

Adding dips - weighted dips when progressed to it, are great at helping sculpt the chest. Being a different movement, angle and way of actually lifting to the bench press, it hits your chest in a different way and makes it work differently. Definitely a great exercise to add in to help progress in overall strength, as well as aesthetics

I do dips wide and narrow in a split with chins once a week. Pull Push.
Dips are good for improving lock out. Many powerlifters train their delts and tri's hard because they understand them to be a major part of the bench press!
Dips are a good excercise for triggering your balancing muscles which helps to prevent injury.
Keep them nice and deep with pauses on the last 5. 10 - 20 reps
Pause at Top and bottom of dip.

i train weighted dips twice a week - absolutely awesome compound movement imo.
