Getting fat my first year or so of training, I ate everything and got to around 15 stone... a few photos exist, I'll try to fish them out, I looked HUGE with clothes on, but was flabby (although not really 'fat', apart from around my face and neck). As far as I can remember, my diet wasn't all that bad, potato and tuna, yoghurts, tuna sandwiches, chicken, protein shakes - I don't remember the exact details, although I had a LOT of fruit juice or milk. There may be better specifics in my log thread, actually!

Really James! I was unaware you got that heavy. Fish the photos out! That is like my diet that got me up to 16 stone, and I was fat lol. However I wonder if I'd trained like I do now, with all that food when I was 18,19,20 if more of it would've been muscle...

Spending the first year or 2 of my gym training experiences following routines from awful PTs and friends who didnt know what they were doing. Resultant workouts were all mammoth superset upper body and no legs style workouts. I cut up well and put on a little size (I put that down to beginners gains etc) but I had chicken legs and never "grew" until I started doing some research about proper training and nutrition etc.

Training without having a clue about proper nutrition or recovery times. I trained my ass off but didn't eat the right foods or let my muscles recover so it was pretty pointless really. Just signed up here to try and make my time in the gym more productive!

are yes no leg training that was another one of my starting issues, I never training mine for the 1st year and may be a few months of the 2nd year. started to look top heavy with all the crappy foods and twig legs. there was no such thing as a routine then for me it was just used what every was free and what i liked to do. the class bicep curls and chest press never even touched a free weight.

Deciding that calories in vs calories out were all I cared about, getting stuck in a horrible cycling of over eating and over exercising (cardio of course, no machine tells you calories expended from weight lifting!).. all the while my stomach fatter grew to give me the pregnant look I have today. Lost a year to this nonsense! Ah well. At least people stand up for me on the train.

erm first year, joined a small gym instructor put me on machines and told me to eat lots of carbs. i then tried exercises that i saw other people doing, and never upped the weight. i then joined a diff gym, did a lot of upper body free weights like 5 chest exercises and 5 bicep exercises etc. all of this was with a terrible diet. mainly from people giving terrible advice. hated squats and deadlifts, though i did do them at one point and got some great leg gains but then stopped again just because i hated them. erm overbulked, over trained, under ate by a lot. always changed my goals. probably more but thats all i remember.
