Hey all, I'm thinking this is the right place to post this but i just dunno:

i've spent about 8months working on bulking up, now i seem 2 have turned a corner in that i'd like to focus more on muscle toning.
However im not 100% sure what you need to be looking at for this; so i've satrted low weight hi rep (sets of 20, 20, 12(Higher weight)) with intermitant cardio roughly 2/3 times a week.
I am basically asking if this is the right way to go about it, or do I need to b doin sumthing else?
    Many thanks Jack

muscle 'tone' being the constant contraction of a small number of fibres in the muscle, is basically acheived through general training. imo there is no particular way to train that will enhance this, lower weight/higher reps may help with muscle hardness but in general I wouldnt defer much from the compound movements, just maybe add in more isolation movements.
Can everyone stop thinking so much.please?

in terms of poundages and reps, keep it around the 8-12 mark, but most importantly keep your workouts intense! just because you are cutting dont slack off and take it easy in the weight room.
if you want more help we really need to look at your whole routine and diet.

    nonsense

toned basically implies high muscle definition through lower bodyfat.

You can keep your routine consistent, you just need to lower calories so as to "cut"

Start by dropping 250-500 cals a day

Bang on, nrage. Your rep goes up some more
The idea of 'toning' is largely a myth - tone just refers to excitability of muscle fibres ,which can be increased by any resisitance training.

If you want to look more defined, simply work on losing fat.

So basically, you guys are saying I should be eating lean (high protein low fat), keep up the cardio to lower fat and keep doing normal sets e.g between 8-12? Aswell with reagrd to supplements it seems as though whey concentrate would probably be best?
Thanks for the help so far seems like it saved me a lot of wasted training time!

There are a few differing methods. Main thing is you are in a calorie deficit. High protein/med carbs/low fat is a good start though.
