Sounds like they're just plain lazy...you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, as they say.

Agreed, if you can't get motivated at the thought of what you may be able to achieve (especially when just starting out) then maybe it just isn't for them (or you) !

I get days when I'm not quite in the mood and could quite easily decide to not bother, but I find once I'm there then I crack on like I normally do, and feel a lot better than what I would if I hadn't bothered.

    Ditto.

I also find it's good to set myself a weight goal. So one week i might wanna add and extra 10kg onto one of my exercises for 8 reps and so i'll go at it harder and make sure i go, it's like a competition with yourself!
Either that, or if you can pay for a month pass get them to do that, that'll make em go, no-one likes to waste money!

I tend to try and visualise myself hitting a rep target or feeling of pump by the end of an exercise then strive to hit that target, normally knowing damn well it's going to be hard for me to achieve it.

I'm the same when it comes to the 'moans and groans' people feel necessary to bark out mid rep, I am a more internally fired person when I am training rather than the more vocal and/or visual person...I wouldnt say thats because I have some kinda well centred pro-like intensity, it's just the way i train

I agree about some peoples motivation though, they make every excuse under the sun not to go gym, I was the same when i trained after work in the evening (much less regularly a few years back) whereas now i train at lunch I have less opportunity to talk myself out of it

Stick 'em on a really high does of AAKG pre workout, and at the end of the routine, look at the pump and say "that's what you could look like all the time in two months". Perfect visual aid. If that doesn't do it, you won't get them to stick with it no-matter what you try. It's like a short-term glimpse at future gains. Does it for me.

I'm known as a bit of a nutter but i use self critisicm to give me motivation, i'll get myself really angry with myself and that drives me to work out really well and eat perfectly.

To keep myself working out and eating well i remind myself that i am, fat, short, ugly, weak, ****.
