    I'm trying to follow the MP "Lean Muscle" diet which involves a lot of rice.

    Have been using microwave rice because of the convenience given my job and inability to cook up fresh rice daily. one thing i've noticed is that the carb count in these semi-cooked instant rice packets appears to be approxamately half that of normal unprepared rice. is this due to the pre-cooking? IE am i actually getting half the amount of carbs that i need or would cooking unprepared rice from scratch decrease the carb count anyway?

    Cheers

    I used to have trouble with figuring out rice carbs as well, because not everyone specifies whether they are talking cooked or uncooked.

    Got this snippet from tilda.com
    <tilda>
    Typically 100g of uncooked rice produces around 240-260g
    of cooked grains.
    Plain uncooked rice has the following nutritional breakdown per 100g:
    Energy 348k/cal
    Carbohydrates 78g
    </tilda>

    So if 100 grams of uncooked rice has 78 grams of carbs, if the rice is only soaking up water, then at most the cooked product can only contain 78 grams of carbs. So the answer to your question is that, yes, because the rice in the bags is precooked, they show you the cooked weight, since the uncooked is pretty meaningless as you have no way of figuring out what the uncooked weight was.
