Not sure where this topic goes so I'm posting here in the hopes that there will be some answers as sleep is important!

For the past few days now I've been going to bed as usual around 10:30-11 pm and waking up at 3:50 am (give or take a few minutes). However its not a stir from my sleep, its been a bolt upright wide awake ready to face the world awake... and when I look at my clock I pretty much can't believe that its the middle of the night. The weirdest/worst part is I go back to bed and feel tired when my alarm goes off in the morning.

Are there any tricks that I can pull to get my body out of this weird sleeping pattern?!?

have you tryed the old glass bottle to the head technique? lol
drinking warm milk/cocoa can help you sleep.

they say babys sleep soundly because they have an clear conscience, so the question is: what have you been up to? lol

Haha... Its not the sleeping part thats difficult... Its the annoying waking up thats bugging me.

Once I put my head back on the pillow I'm out again. The problem is that at 3:50am I feel like I've woke up for the morning, yet in the morning I feel like I've been woken up in the middle of the night.

And 3:50am... why that time? the last few nights?!?! Very strange.

I'll give the warm milk thing a go.

yeah i know what you mean i go phases of doing that,
mine was waking up at somthing like 3:12am exactly every morning lol

it could be due to somthing like A: not burning enough energy during the day so you wake up early or B: not enough food in your system before bed, think of bears and hibernating lol

if i remember right a Small amount of carbs before bedtime stimulates the part of your brain that tells you to get ready for sleep. if thats right then a small bowl of porridge and a nice drink of warm milk should knock you out till tomorrow lol

I started taking zinc before bed a few weeks ago before this started, and was sleeping fine... Well, better really, as I was sleeping really deep! Only taking them as my mum had some zinc tabs she didn't want, and I'd heard it was good before bed. Still taking it, but waking up.

Its definately not a question of no food and carbs before bed. the bulk of my carbs come in at dinner time around 9ish in the form of veg.

I go through similar phases once in a while. I wouldn't worry about it unless it goes on for a while.

This may be related to the cyclic nature of sleep and REM [rapid eye movement] sleep. There are four stages in all...drowsiness/light dreaming, light sleep, Delta/deep sleep and REM/deep dream sleep. The last stage - REM - is a dynamic state in which the brain is as active as if you were awake - even though your are deeply asleep. If a dream should cause you to wake [even if you don't remember dreaming], you will be alert and wide awake. REM sleep is most prevelant between the hours of 3 and 6 am. If your alarm happens to wake you up through one of the other stages - where the brain is less active - this may explain the feeling of tiredness.

I'm not really worreid about it, more wondering if there was a fix for it.... I'm sure you know the feeling you get when you look at your clock and its the god damn middle of the night and you've almost put your clothes on ready for work because you're sure its rise and shine in the morning! haha
