same with leg press, they are only good for increasing strength on the leg press. No functional carryover whatsoever

When you eat the foods your body is made for (Paleo foods) in a framework that your body is made for (feast-fast, such as IF), it all works beautifully.

Well, my guess is it is not a very natural or functional exercise...when you do the movement in everyday life it tends to be to kick something like a football, tin can, the cat...not an eighty kilo stack of iron! Also, with your lower leg fixed at the knee joint and ankle I would imagine, with sufficient resistance, you are 'opening up' the knee joint which is asking for cartilage/ligament injuries or the plica syndrome in particular!

leg press is a good exercise imo, the way you lot are going there isnt going to be any leg exercises that you should do left!

having no functional carryover at all on the leg press i find quite hard to believe gareth.

I had the same problem when squatting. Had a few weeks off did light stretching and it was still no better. Went to see the physio who after one session referred me to a consultant who diagnosed a Synovial Plicae. The only cure if you've got one is surgery, however if you can cope with the pain you can leave it because the plicae itself does not reduce structural stability of the knee it merely catches in the joint. Try taking glucosamine with chondroitin as that helps a great deal.
