i would do hiit on your off days rather than straight after your weight session especially while bulking it depends on how long your weight training lasts for, it would be ok if you was only doing 35-45 mins, but your muscle glycogen will be very depleted and start to use muscle for energy

    good advice there.

if you do HIIT on 2 off days per week you should be fine.

It will reduce the amount of fat you gain but also reduce the amount of muscle gained.

i would keep it to once a week on a non weight day.

reduce fat and muscle gain as said by meathead. it will also reduce your recovery between weight sessions......hiit makes my legs ache so deadlifts and squats are out the window the next day or two!

dont be scared of a few pounds of fat. its your cosy winter friend!

It's not often I disagree with you James but this is one occasion.

Providing one ensures they compensate for the extra calories burned I believe that the amount of muscle gained will be the same if not improved.

For a start there is the increased insulin sensitivity, increased nutrient partitioning, the reduced fat means that one can remain around their set-point easier (thus allowing greater muscle gain)

I think cardio be it any form is most useful especially whilst bulking

    Calorific surplus is the key

i have to disagree with that gareth.

the recovery process is severley hampered with hiit therefor reducing your bodys potential for muscular growth as a result of lifting weights!

even with the extra calories and the benefits of hiit, reducing the recovery capabilities of your body by adding high intensity cardio is going to be slightly detremental to muscle gains.

i did hit on sunday morning for 10-15 min, then back and shds last night. feel like ive been hit by a bus thismorning. im cutting so im not too fussed but in future i wont be doing it.

too much intensity, with not enough recovery = selling your gains short!
