What products should i take to aid my marathon training?

I had a look at the products but i found it difficult because many are quite similar.

I'm looking for something to consume during a run which is similar in quality as an isotonic gel/ drink, and a recovery drink afterwards.

I found impact whey protein, fructose and guarana extract but i never taken supplements of any kind so don't know what is best. What are your views?

Any help would be appreciated because i have been looking for ages but find it hard to commit myself due to conflicting views on the internet.

Mmmm, interesting question for me...I've got a place on the Marathon Des Sables in 2011 and I am steadily building up mileage too whilst continuing my weight training.

To be honest, I don't really bother with any of those sport drinks. Good old water works fine for me for hydration and a couple of bananas before I go for a run. I then have 40g whey with water straight away when I'm finished.

A quick digesting carb like vitargo and whey powder would be beneficial during or post.
