I've been back in the gym since March after a long lay off and decided to do something different with my weight training. Still more focused on cardio training as I'm more interested in being fit than looking "buff" and I seem to genetically carry more muscle (meso to endomorph) so despite not having trained weights for a while I still have some mass. My solution has been to do a total body workout twice a week training with a nod to the H.I.T. principals.

I've tried to put together a routine which includes some lifts I enjoy and others with goals I wanted to achieve short term. So, I came up with the following which I perform 3 sets of for 8 reps, first 2 sets as warm ups and then working to just about finish the final reps in good form with only a little cheating.

    Pek Deck 35 - 65
    Dumbell Bench Press 17.5 - 35
    Assisted Dips 42.5 - 0
    Kickbacks 15 - 30

    Goodmornings 50 - 60 (16 reps)
    Pulldowns Underhand Grip 50 - 95
    Pulldowns Overhand Grip 50 - 95
    Dumbell Curls 10 - 25

    Squats 50 - 105

First figure is weight in Kgs I started with in March and the second is where I currently am. I enjoy goodmornings so I include them though I could really do with using a heavier weight. I wanted to squat 100Kg so that's one short term goal achieved, I also want to Bench 45 Kg dumbells and am getting there slowly. Could PekDek more but that's the equipments limit and I've never liked doing flyes but may switch the PD for crossovers soon. Will also be changing from Kickbacks as I'm using a weight that my shoulders really struggle to support in position for the exercise.

Pretty quick workout compared to what I used to do and I finish my weight days with 30 minutes of cardio, currently the Stairmaster.

Weights on Mondays & Thursdays and I do cardio for an hour or so Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat with the occasional extra day off depending on work. Have been making steady progress with my cardio but I would probably have made slightly better progress if my body wasn't expending resources recovering from the weights training but I have been shifting fat weight these past 3 months which I attribute to the weight training so swings and roundabouts.

I posted the above in my intro on the intro forum, which has a little more info, but it was suggested posting it here also. I'd be interested to hear any opinions on what I'm doing as I'm intending to start tinkering with it so input would be appreciated.

Have you read any of the workout routines etc on the forum?

No, haven't dug much into the forum yet. So, can I take the lack of response to my posts ( tumbleweed blowing through ) as a sign that people aren't too keen on my current choice of exercises? Oh well, I'll probably just stick to lurking.

Why not post more, get more advice, change your routine up? Keep a journal? Don't be disheartened by people not replying. Look at my journal if you want to see tumble weed
