I would have a decent meal within an hour of training. Followed by a rest

Not at all. There is only one legitimate reason to eat and that is because of hunger. Eating to some arbitrary temporal schedule is what is daft...and the reason society has such problems with obesity and eating disorders!

NU has a point but if I ate when I was hungry I'd be huge

I try to eat a meal about an hour after my PWO shake, though in reality it usually drags out to about 90 mins later because I don't feel upto eating a large meal so soon after training hard and having a big PWO shake.

What I'm saying is: If you are not hungry 60 minutes after training why force yourself to eat? If you are ravenous 30 minutes after training, why force yourself to wait another 30 minutes just because some body building mag says one hour is the ideal time?

    Was just having a joke

That's pretty much exactly what I do. I've waited upto 2 hours after a PWO shake to have a meal. If you're not hungry, eating a meal, especially a big one with lots of veg, etc can be extremely tedious!

I realised that - no offence taken...but I thought I would just clarify what I was saying to the OP...I think he thought I was being facetious when I was being deadly serious!

Its is not HUNGER, Without protein your body will not be able to build new muscle, so if you're lifting weights but not eating you wouldn't put on decent muscle. That is why you need to eat every 3 hours if your lifting weights. What specifically happens if you wait more than 3 hours to eat is your body passes a tipping point and signals your body to launch its natural starvation protection mechanism. When your starvation protection mechanism is switched on, your body preserves the most calorie-rich tissue in the body to ensure your survival. That tissue is body fat. Lean muscle tissue is your metabolism. Bottom line, muscle burns fat and thus will set your metabolism in motion.
