make sure your up early enough to get enough food in you and let it settle to fuel your training.

i woudnt train in the mornings till i had eaten at least a few eggs, a protein shake and some oats

    defo not.

to build muscle you need carbs.

eat carbs with most of your meals, although protein is your main priority.

as you train early, dont go crazy with the carbs after your evening meal.

I've been working out first thing in the morning for two years and I find (as long as you dont spend more than 45 mins in the gym) doing it on a empty stomach is just as effective if not more .I do have 10g of EAA's and maybe a b vitamin before and then 10g of EAA's after. I then wait about an hour and have a good meal..eg:egg's,sausage(low carb),spinach ,tomatoes or prawns, eggs, and salmon with some green veg...works for me! I wouldn't place to much importance on carbs but a piece of fruit with that meal could be good too!

i dont think its reasonable to suggest that training first thing in the morning on an empty stomach is optimal conditions for gaining muscle

If you workout within 2 hours of waking ,like me , food wouldn't digest properly and belive me I've tried! The only thing I've found to be benificial is EAA's! I also try to eat near bedtime so i'm not overly hungry in the morning...something like cottage cheese.

also 'hollywood' have a look at this site http://www.arthurdevany.com/evolutionary_fitness/ worth a read...amonst other things he advocates training hungry first thing in the morning!

theres no way that training whilst hungry, inparticular first thing is the best way to train your best and make optimum gains.

first thing in the morning is the only time I can workout so I've not got a lot of choice there! If it were possible I'd probably train later on after food!

Like I've said I've tried all sorts of breakies\shakes and the best gains I've had are Hungry but with EAA's .
There is a certain focus I get when hungry...I'm not saying it'll suit all and I was unsure myself at first, but as I said if it's a short but intense workout the gains just as good.If anything ,not having something undigested slushing around in your gut helps focus!
