    Pre-history repeating itself? Assuming man started off as a scavenger from other predators before evolving into hunters in their own right.

    Interesting that they choose to steal the food from lions rather than grazing animals (less risky I would have thought) - but then the nutritional return/calorific value would be worth the risk of being gored/trampled, I suppose. Plus grass and brush would not be very edible by humans...now what is it the vegetarian lobby were saying about what we would eat in the wild if we were starving? And something about not having the teeth or claws to take down prey and eat it? Maybe, but we have the brains to let the lions do the killing and dismembering for us, then steal the meat from under their noses!

    Following on from my post here: http://forum.myprotein.co.uk/347013-post13.html

    Protein = 74g (13.3%)
    Fat = 214g (85.3%)
    Carbs = 8g (1.4%)
    Omega-3 = ~5g
    I have done another fasting lipid panel test.

    Previously I had experimented with reintroducing some carbs (in a limited fashion with berries but bear in mind my carb intake had usually been between 1% and 2% of my total daily calorie intake) and increasing protein while reducing fat. In all cases this had a disastrous result on my lipid panel - lowered HDL and increased triglycerides - indicating an increasing risk of insulin resistance.

    You can look back through this thread for the previous lipid panel results but, from memory, I started out with an HDL of 2+ mmol/L and triglycerides around 1.2 mmol/L. After the experimental increase of carbs/protein and decrease of fats HDL fell as low as 1.3ish mmol/L and triglycerides rocketed up to almost 3 mmol/L. Since then, as attested by the quoted post above, I have reverted to a virtually zero carb, high fat moderate to low protein macro ratio and this is the effect it has had on my lipids as of this morning:

    Total Cholesterol has remained constant at 10.4 mmol/L
    HDL cholesterol has increased to 1.97 mmol/L (almost back to where it was)
    Triglycerides have fallen back to 1.06 mmol/L

    My triglycerides-to-HDL cholesterol ratio is now back down to 0.54 from around 2 (3+ is indicative of insulin resistance according to the work of Reaven et al), so my insulin sensitivity as gone back up since I've reverted back to uber-low carb and uber-high fat.

    Needless to say, I will think long and hard before following the advice of some people on here again!

    Quick question!
    Probably one you will hate, and i understand why, but what would you estimate your body fat levels are and do they vary much year long?

    I don't mind you asking that at all dom. I have some calipers and I've just measured it as 14.8%, which - for my age group - is listed as 'lean'! I did get it down to 12 point something percent when I first embarked on this 'carnivorous diet' but as you have no doubt read I've been playing about with both carb and protein levels and this has had disastrous consequences in more ways than one probably!

    Still, I am back on course now.

    My body weight certainly stays fairly constant - usually between 86 and 92 kilos. Currently I am at 89 kilos so that's 75.8 kilos FFM and 13.2 kilos body fat.

    Thanks for that, i have always had in my mind that 11-12% seems pretty balanced and natural. You don't have to kill yourself all the time to mantain it.

    Do you do any form of excercise other than general day to day stuff?
