  1. Default Eating A Balanced Healthy Diet

With there being allot of discussion about various diet methods on here, along with a couple of "experiments" which may be detrimental to health, I think its worth having a thread on the basic recommended Balanced diet.

This is suitable for the average Joe as people involved in physical sports may require a slightly higher intake of protein than the chart below suggests.

Anyway...just for the record since this is the NHS suggested balanced diet.

    Bread? What's that?

I think a basic balanced diet is good advice for Joe Bloggs. It's great to educate yourself and take control of your diet and lifestyle, but not everyone is in the position to do that, and not everyone wants to. To quote a work colleague this morning, "what's the point in fussing over your diet and health, when your time is up then your time is up, anyone could be hit by a bus tomorrow"...

It's nice to be reminded of that shape my fitday pie chart never resembles

Double up the meat and fish and reduce the others proportionally and that's not too far off what I eat.

It's probably 'cause I've been married to a dietitian for 12 years.

I'd say for the average Joe that chart is to high carb and not high enough fish and meat and fat!... what a shock..

Only slight tweaking would be needed, more 20% carb the other 2*12.5% going to meat and dairy respectively.

I think a lot of people eat far more carbs than are recommended. If such a person was to cut down to the amount of carbs recommended, they'd see a big difference without cutting to low carb.

My housemate lives on pizza, bread, pasta, battered/breaded items - his daily carb intake is far more than on that chart. I know a lot of people who eat this way including myself at one point.

If I had the choice, I'd love to eat nearer those recommendations than I do. Just a little less carbs and a little more protein.
