I read this story in the metro while on the train yesterday, thought some of the paleo folks here might be interested in reading it.

Thanks for posting that, Daffy. Interesting read but raw food is not for me!

Just to put the other side of this story here is a myth debunking article from beyondveg.com. I like this site because, although written by practicing vegans/vegetarians for the most part, it is refreshingly honest and scientific about the downsides of fringe diets!

Raw food has it's place in the diet but theres nothing wrong with cooked food (of the correct type) and nothing 'extra' special about raw.

Both come as part of a balanced diet, cooking has been around for so much of our evoltion we have not only evolved to handle cook food but if we didn't have cooked food we wouldn't be where we are now.

For me cooking is about making things taste nice, more bioavailble or destroying toxins, exactly what out ancestors did it for (well they did it for preservation too, i have a freezer)

Things i eat raw are those that are more powerful in that state, liver for example and anything that is non toxic in raw state and may have nutrients that degrade or have no aditional benefit of being cooked.

Basically i eat fruits, nuts, liver, some meats and fish raw.

Most meats, shellfish, tomatoes and vegetables cooked.

100% raw diets are for people with their head in the couds.
