I've got a bag Oats I've got from Tesco that needs finishing, dumb question, but instead of cooking it in milk in a pan (which takes forever), is it ok just to chuck it in a blender as it is and blend it up with some milk?
It'll be chunky I know but I just need something to bang off in the morning.

If it's just to get rid of them, sure. I believe MP's own oats are essentially just fine ground oats.

On a longer term basis, you might want to at least soak them overnight before putting them in the blender for reasons described in this link.

Thanks dude, useful read. Its not a long term thing, I just want to use them before I buy some MP Oats, being a student I can't waste stuff on my loan lol.
Would you or anyone suggest soaking them in water overnight, then throwing away the water then and blending it up? Or soaking it in milk and have it as it is, with some whey and a banana blended too?

I'm trying to avoid cooking it in the morning.

Wouldn't soak it in milk and then drink drink the milk, that'd be somewhat counterproductive, as you'd be drinking the very things you were trying to get rid of in the first place.

Soak them, throw away the water. Not sure you'll be able to blend them since they'll probably be quite soggy.

To be honest thats what I was thinking, but it was unclear in the link above. They mentioned soaking them, then cooking it, so didn't know what to do with the soaking liquid.
But thank you again, I think I'll soak them in some water and blend it, if its soggy it'll be a thickener to the shake lol.

    Ta dude.

why not just whack the oats in a bowl with milk and put them both in the microwave together?

i dont mean to hijack, but if MP's ultra fine oats are fundamentally the same as whole oats, would it not make sense that they too would require soaking ? If the're just raw oats ultra fine stylie.

I disagree that the water need be disposed of, because the act of soaking is to 'trick' the grain into sprouting, and when the grain begins the sprouting process, as far as i understand it, the protective chemicals break down not just leach into the water. But i'm not 100% sure on this. I just remember reading that somewhere, i'll look into it.

Yeah you can do it, that's actually been my breakfast for a long time now. Whenever I did it in the microwave I could never do it right, it was either really thick or runny. Now I just stick milk in my blender pour in X amounts of oats and blend and it's done.

I've never soaked them myself, don't think I will, happy as I am.
