DDT is an organochlorine. Sucralose is an organochlorine.

An organochloride, organochlorine, chlorocarbon, or chlorinated solvent is an organic compound containing at least one covalently bonded chlorine atom.

DDT is an organochlorine insecticide, similar in structure to the pesticides dicofol and methoxychlor.

Sucralose is an organochloride (or chlorocarbon), some of which are known to cause have significant toxicity to plants or animals, including humans.
I also believe that a number of patents were filed for the sucralose manufacturing process and not all of them stipulated using sugar as a basis! Ergo "Chemically, Splenda is More Similar to DDT Than Sugar".

All quoted definitions from wikipedia (same source/different articles - one each for organochlorine, DDT & sucralose - to avoid accusations of cherry-picking quotes from partisan sites!)

I'm sure with adequate googling I could come up with similar 'studies' showing a steak will kill you, or eggs will make your heart stop.

Most things in excess will probably kill you, and I don't think anyone will dispute that, Sucralose has been in use since 1991, and I imagine if the side effects were as damaging as suggested, significantly more effort would have been put into studying it.

I wasn't disputing the fact that it may well be, just pointing out that phrases such as that one have no business in any kind of objective article, and are a clear indication of bias on the part of the author.

Again, my problem isn't really with the claim, chemical sweeteners probably aren't empirically good for you, however, given the choice between say sucralose, and an equivalently sweet amount of sugar, I'd put money on the sugar displaying all of the 'symptoms' of eating sucralose:

Whether people in general have too much of a sweet tooth and should cut back on both sugar & sweeteners is a different question. I did this with salt a while ago, really makes you realise how much of the stuff there is in processed food.

I just can't stand the taste of any artifical sweetner, it may just be my tongue but IT DOESN'T TASTE SWEET, to me it tastes bitter and has a horrible tangy aftertaste which my tongue doesn't know how to categorise apart from a 'eurgh this is not food' reaction. Whenever I mistakenly buy a diet Dr Pepper I can instantly tell it's not real because it tastes "empty", if coffee doesn't taste nice to you without sweetner YOU DON'T LIKE COFFEE so why drink it? I did this with tea and ended up switching to peppermint tea We use sugar to make junk food taste like nutritious food, stop deliberately fooling yourself

As a matter of fact, it’s been shown that diet soft drinks can double your risk of obesity!

Didn't realise Splenda was this bad, I've just finished a box of it as well. It was quite horrible actually. Instead of replacing it with another sweetener or using sugar I'll either drink water or not use sugar :P.
Thanks for posting this Luff, and yes I've only just found it now.

I always thought Aspartame was worse than Sucrolose so switched to Sucralose, even alot of Protein shakes now state they're Aspartame free.

I drink alot of squash as I'm not a fan of water alone and majoirty of these are loaded with some kind of artfitical sweetner. So what do you think is the best of a bad bunch of sweetners?

None of them really. But if you really must have a sweetener go for something natural like xylitol or erythritol (the latter has the least reported side effects of the sugar alcohols - things like stomach upsets and diarrhoea!). I use glycerine.

That's a good price. I usually buy it on-line in 5 litre bottles. It used to be about a tenner but it appears to have gone up in price quite significantly since I bought the last one!
