Is a low carb vegan diet a good idea?
Would it not give you extremely limited food choices?
What have you been eating so far on this week?
I'm having a lot of trouble staying on the straight and narrow, after one excellent week and a weight loss of 4lb, i've caved, eaten carbs (like back to 'normal' amounts of it) and put it all back on again, undoing all the hard work in the gym *sigh* it's like i'm setting myself up to fail or something, and i'm damned if i'm going to let it beat me.
I need.. motivation, protein/evening meal ideas that are low in carbs.
any ideas/suggestions??
help! lol

yeah i'm in need of shifting a fair few lb's and my diet to be fair is crap. far too much white bread and biscuits - anything that fills me up.
i thought i had my carb monster under control, but it seems not!
A low-carb vegan diet is going to be very difficult to achieve and maintain as most of your food choices are going to be higher in carbs - of some sort - than any other single macro-nutrient.
Beans (or any legume) are considered to be the pre-eminent protein source on a vegan diet but protein only makes up 29% of the total calories in 100g of red kidney beans while carbohydrates are 71% of total calories! Soya beans (and its products) are one of the few beans where protein content is greater than carbs but these are best avoided if you are male because of the oestrogenic qualities of these beans.
You definitely need to steer clear of highly refined carb sources like white bread and biscuits, though, if you stand any chance of making the diet work!

I think the only wholefoods (ignoring protein powders etc) you can do a low carb vegan diet are:
Nuts, seeds and mabye a little veg.
Not particularly balanced! and about as realistic as a high carb carnivorous diet.
Problems with soley eating the above food choices:
-Omega 6:3 ratio too high
-High antinutrient content would make you deficient in minerals.
-It may be hard to get correct amino acid intake.
-Too many nuts/seeds would make you severely constipated.

mmm i mean lowER carbs then, i still intend to eat a small amount of carbs, just earlier in the day - porridge for breakfast, 2 slices of wholemeal bread incorporated in lunch and a small amount of rice/wholemeal pasta in my evening meal. i've seriously upped my protein intake with hemp protein shakes, way more soya yogurts and more protein in my evening meal.
what else would you suggest instead for losing weight?

fab that should keep me on the path to righteousness! cheers![]()
don't mean to be rude, but it's going to be hard low-carbing on a vegan diet!
i'm a veggie and tried low carbing, and i just put on weight, so went back to a healthier balanced diet and have lost weight!
how long have you been a vegan? as this will help you decide (i been veggie from birth, so my body is used to carbs, so if you've been vegan for a long time then your body may have adapted to a high carb diet, this doesn't mean you can't go back, but it will take time!)
