Do you think you need oats in a pw shake or at least some sort of carb?

Or is it a case of just necking your 30 odd grams of protein and then eating something later?

I mean, are you looking for a bulk up meal after your workout, or just to get the protein and then sort the rest later?

I'd go for that option myself!

Some people choose to have some fast acting carbs. This causes a release of insulin, which helps shuttle nutrients into the muscles.

different schools of thinking regards the carbs and insulin pwo. you can have it if you want, but it isn't really needed as whey can stimulate insulin release just as well as carbs.

Protein alone will release plenty of insulin for shuttling amino acids into muscle cells + muscle cells are more insulin sensitive after training. No need to swamp them with excess insulin from fast acting carbs.

    ^dope540 got there first!

If someone was looking to pack on mass though, having carbs in there wouldn't hurt. Not from an insulin releasing point of view but from calorific?

won't do any harm if you're bulking. total daily food intake is more important than pwo shake. half the time i don't have a pwo shake. either i'm too lazy or too cheap. like today, i went to temple gym and had my pwo shake when i got back home, about 40mins later cos i couldn't be ***** to pay for a shake when i have all the stuff back at home.

I don't really see the logic of that position when fats contain more than twice the caloric value of carbs. If you want to eat something for its caloric value go for fats...you need to eat less of them than carbs for the same caloric bang - less bulk to swallow and lower costs.

It's like people who eat 5 egg whites and a bowl of oats...why not eat 5 whole eggs without the oats? The small gain in fat from the yolks, calorie-wise, would more than make up for the largely indigestible and nutrient poor oats!

Personally I like oats in post workout shake, as ive tryed dex 2:1 with protein and its way to sweet, plus oats are slower releasing, which is good if you take a shake before a sport or something, plus holds your hunger off until your next meal.

your right NU, but PWO having fats will not help quick absorption!
but your right in general about diet! (even though i still eat carbs, my body seems to like them, so it's good, but i have more of a balanced diet than a higher carb/protein/fat diet)
