    Edit- Pics need rotating, doh!

I've added fat, over a week of being on a surplus I'm soft and less definition. I don't know what's gone on here. I tried bulking about a month ago, ate way too much 3000+ a day...I'm 140lbs 5 10'.

So did a cut to get rid of the fat, doing w/o day at maintanence then other days at 1300, which got me leaner than I was before my first bulk. Then Mon 14th I decided to start my bulk again but tried different calorie range. Keeping at 2650 calories. Which I thought would be an OK range to gain. Just how much do I need? I'm really confused now. Really didn't think I'd gain fat in that amount of time on that many calories.

Would zig zagging calories be a better option for me? below maint on off days and above on w/o days?

Don't take my word for it, but is going down as low as 1300 calories safe?

I read that anything below 1800 is potentially dangerous, and I would think it would definitely give your body starvation signals.

I think going below 1800 being potentially dangerous is a bit mis-informed. Some people might maintain at 1800, so to lose they need to be eating 1300-1400. Plus on my workout days I ate at maintenance - balancing out the overall deficit. Worked very well I might add. Also some people just need less food to lose weight, activity, metabolism etc.

Moto needs to eat more. Seriously dude, we've had this convo enough times. 140lb is painfully thin @ 5'10, join a proper gym and get your eat on. Accept a small amount of fat gain and quit with the dismorphia. You're current regime of bulking for 4 weeks then going back to cutting is just a good way of spinning your wheels.

Try surplus only on weight training days with the majority PWO if it's really concerning you. It's coming up go winter anyway so who needs abs...

I know I know, Moto does need to eat more, I want to gain at a good muscle to fat ratio, at the mo it just seemed like fat was being laid which in a week is not a good indication to the amount of food to take in.

I haven't gone back to cutting this time just went to just above maintenance since yesterday. Need to figure out how much to eat. ATZ how much would you suggest considering my weight? As a basic calculation using Lyle's 16Xbw lbs I need 2240 to gain...But to me that sounds sooo low. What do you think? I'm work from home as a designer so I'm not active, just my 3 workouts a week.

I was ready for fat gain, but it came on too fast! Trying to rid my dismorphia one day at a time.

It sounds low because it is x BW and your body weight is extremely low! You keep saying that you know you are too thin yet it seems everytime you start to eat you freak out! My suggestion would be to see a doctor re your eating disorder, it's not healthy.

Well try 16cal per lb and see how you go from there, then re-assess after a few weeks. Plenty of time to get this done properly.

I don't think I'm too thin, I was actually happy with my level of leanness, with an aim to possibly put weight on over time. I freak out because I overshoot on calories, leading to fat gain in a matter of weeks. So what I did was reset the clock to try again, I tried again with an overall lower calorie range and still put weight on in the wrong sense (fat gain) so I was freaking out due to putting on fat in the space of a week (that isn't healthy).

My suggestion would be to see a doctor re your eating disorder, it's not healthy.
Also I don't have an eating disorder, I love food, eat well and track calories dependent on my goal so I know how my intake is. The only eating disorder I may have is while trying to gain I'm constantly looking for way to get more calories, it then becomes a worry " oh no not enough calories".

My general problem is I hate the feeling of bodyfat, I would love to be 5%. Before I started this bulk I had good definition, therefore to lose that in the name of 'putting on weight' isn't worth it to me. If I'd gained a lb of muscle and lb of fat fair do's I'd be happy but I didn't. You see my point?
ATZ - Yeah think that's what I'll do. Most likely stick to 2350-2400 everyday, then reassess. Maybe implement the zigzag if that don't work, but would rather not overcomplicate
