I'm 30 - 6ft 3 and weigh 14 stone. I have a very active job working on building suites (dry liner) all day long. Work very hard so tend to get decent body workout lifting fairly heavy boards all day long.

I've recently started to weight train (3 times a week using the 5x5 plan). I've severly changed my eating habits taking many hints off this website. I used to eat a lot of processed food and now tend to stick to whole foods / proper cooked meals.

The problem is that some of the most important foods that are suggested to increase my protein intake i simply cannot eat. Cheese I have not been able to eat all my life. As soon as it goes near my mouth i throw up. Tuna - a very similar thing. I can't eat any type of fish like tuna / mackrel etc.

I'm taking whey supplement (3 scoops a day) and trying to eat a steak / mince beef / chicken breasts as often as possible. I drink plenty of milk with the whey, eat unsalted nuts as snacks but I am still worried that i may not be getting as much protein as i need to bulk up.

Is it just a case of taking more whey - which i know is not preferable as whole foods - or this there something else I can eat?

    Thanks
    Marc

Mate as long as your eating red meats and chicken as a lean protein source, that should suffice for the protein intak amongst whey supps. Also you can eat natural peanut butter which is excellent for fats and protein along with other nuts such as brazil nuts. Bulking up is as much about carbs and fats as it is protein if not more important for example 1g of fat is 9 calories were as carbs and protein only 4.1 calories, therefore it makes more sense to fill your calories up with as much fats as you can, olive oil, butter & red meats are all excellent for this.

Remember there are good sites online to count your calories and protein intake. Or you can just estimate it yourself. eg. most meat contains somewhere in the region of 22-26g of protein per 100g, so if you know you have eaten Xg of meat, you can judge how close you are to your goal intake.

As a side note, an omega 3 supp would probably be an idea if you don't eat much fish.

I don't eat alot more than you mate and I'm doing ok...

Just have plenty of red meat or chicken as part of your main meals and then use shakes inbetween and around training. If you plan to have 30g protein per meal, three times a day, plus 30g in shakes 3 times a day then your having enough. Extra around workouts.

The comments above are true - you would be good to take MP's omega 3 capsules everyday, along with multivitamins.

As has been said its not too big a deal, i know plenty of guys who don't like fish and i don't eat cheese for its protein (i have it sparingly for taste). I mostly just eat lots of chicken, turkey and beef, i'm intrigued by beans/pulses as they seem to have quite a lot of protein in them (with carbs). You don't really need any more than that as you can cook with any number of different seasoning's and sauces.

Just thought, you don't mention eggs, they're great protein too!
