Ok guys- i have been using protein supplements etc for a while and training with waits together with my cardio workouts. My problem is i find it very difficult to put on any kind of weight- i am very thin and weigh 60kg- i have recently started using hurricane xs and have found that this has helped me pack on a kilo in the space of a month or so. I have studined the high carb low carb diet arguments and would like to know your opinions on the best diet and exercise regimes to increase lean muscle mass with minimal fat gains. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

As far as I understand, the only difference will be more that more calories are required. Its easy to get lots of calories on a high fat diet...milk can be useful to top up your calories if you're a bit short for the day.

And for what its worth, I used to think that I had a super fast metabolism (I never seemed to put on any weight) but it turned out that I had an average metabolism but simply wasn't eating enough.

Did you add the hurricane directly to your normal diet without changin or removing anything else? If so then the theres your answer, you've uped your kcal's and your body has responded by getting bigger.

What other diets have you studied? you struggle to put size on by eating low fat. Fats, if you eat the right sorts, are used by your body as building blocks for you cells. Theres a lot more to it than this, it's just my quick 2pence worth
    PB's as of 2010: Deads 220kg, Squat 200kg(190 currently) , Bench 115kg,
    2012 Targets: Deads 250kg, Squats 230kg, Bench 130kg.

    Eat more.

You can't complain at a kilo in a month tho, if that's lean mass that's good going!

Increasing testosterone will also help, this is a key determinant in muscle gain.

I find personally I cant eat that much past "comfortable", However I want to try and add quality lean tissue without too much fat gain, so Im keeping protein and carb high whilst tweaking fats from moderate to high but its hard work. Getting a really good physique is almost like a fulltime job, what to eat, when to eat it, quantitys, marco's, strategies, training. I just wish there was na easy way to get all of the above is a management format whilst at uni and having my own time.

btw to RB and others, does eat more sometimes suggest "force" feeding not to extremes but if there is 50g pasta left on the plate, but you really dont want anyone, then just get it down ?

A guy a know started out at 9 1/2 stone, he now weighs 125kg, competes at PL and strongman. Whilst not all of it is quality weight he is a perfect example of massive eating to get big, he confesses to having to force food down at times. So for some it's a necessary evil.

However I'll also refer you to the genetic limit article I posted in the "advanced discussion" forum, some peoples genetics will be the limiting factor on quality weight gain, however, most aren't anywhere near their genetic limit in which case EAT MORE is good advice.

For most of the population i'm an advocate of reduced cab diets, but in the case of a really skinny guy who's trainign hard and is only interested on packing on the mass, i think carbs are quite effective, esp. before, during, and after training. Pick one or a couple of MP's protein / amminos + carb formulas for this purpose. The next meal after training should also contain a decent amount of carbs and protein. Also focus on getting a decent amount of unrefined carbs and proteins in for breakfast (whole oats, eggs, whole milk, and fruits are good), and for lunch focus again on the protein, a little carbs, and quality fats, with some veggies (fatty meat, oily fish, beans, olive oil, coconut oil, any veggies you like). Snack in between meals on calorie-dense, protein and EFA based foods like nuts and seeds.

Probably the most sensible comment so far! There are very few genuine super-fast metabolisms out there. Aside from illness/disease, the usual reasons why people cannot gain weight is that they do not eat enough (of anything) or they are far too physically active (e.g., too much cardio!).

I'm eating very well at the moment on 3500-4000kcals and my weight isn't shifting up or down an ounce I need to go over 4000kcals to start adding weight again. How many are you eating mdj? As mentioned, you may just not be eating as much as you think you are.

Im trying my best to add pure lean mass as opposed to a mix of fat and lean mass. Any anybody tryed a similar approch as I find it much more difficult to eat surplus carbs and protein as opposed to fat, but logic tells me if it can be done the gains will be much better. ratio: 50car/40pro/10fat
