Hi,
I read recently a post from Martin Berkhan where he discussed a maximum amount of energy that the body will derive from fat stores and that this reduced as you become leaner.
I can't remember the specifics but he talked about a max of around 400kcal at low body fats. The energy deficit being met from glucose & proteins.
If true this is pretty interesting- I've historically cut by having a large deficit on non-training days and eat around maintenance (or above) on training days.
The implication of the max energy from fat is that my approach is not efficient for fat loss. The too big deficit on rest days would mean I'm possibly losing muscle mass. Plus on training days I'm not going to be losing any fat at all and possibly storing a little.
It would also mean I guess that RFL type appoaches with very low intakes don't work at low bodyfats without a lot of muscle loss.
Anyone else found his statement to be true?
Cheers
Nick
