    sweet potatos

seriously - the chemical structure of carbohydrates are differnt to fats and protein. Protein is split into the 19odd amino acids, of which the body makes some and some they dont, hense the essential ones are needed for growth. The fats are split into many chains, theres 15 types of saturaated fats for example. of which certain fats (EFA) are vital for health. Carbohydrates as such are just differnt forms of glucose (in differnt amounts) at the end of the day it will always get broken down to glucose no matter what carb it is.

    so simply - no hehe

Carbohydrate is not an essential nutrient, the body can function just fine without it. The innuit diet is a good example of this.

Well, glucose is needed for respiration at the glycolysis phase, where it is converted into pyruvate. AFAIK glycerol can also be converted to pyruvate, but this is part of a tri-glyceride (fat) not anything to do with carbohydrate. So yeah, I think the body always converts "it" into glucose.

    Greetings folks

Yes ... I completely agree with meathead above.

We have all heard of protein-deficiency diseases, and most certainly diseases caused by a deficiency of fat. Even more to the point in western societies is the deadly imbalance of fats (horrendous levels of omerga 6, for example, in ratio to the omega 3's)

However, you can search all the medical journals in the world, and you will never find any refererence to a Carbohydrate-deficiency disease! It just doesn't exist.

carbohydrate is not essential for life. You could live entirely off a diet of fat and protein (some remote African tribes and Inuits have such diets), although i dont know if that would be a particularly healthy way of living ...

EDIT: Duh. Just realised meat said the same thing
