Hi everyone just after a little bit of advice, my daughter who is 8 is a gymnast her training as increased to 4 times a week for 1h30 a session and is getting more intense and concentrating on core and muscle strength, i try to give her a good varied diet as i do with my bodybuilding but my question is can she take a protein drink post training?

Is there a point if her diet is adequate? I would say a massive no, protein shakes aren't magic potions, and in fact, they contain MUCH fewer minerals and vitamins than whole foods of the same protein content.

Given her age and her discipline I would agree with James totally. Cut out the sweets and fizzy drinks but give her as much high protein/high fat real food as she can pack away. A daily multi-vitamin and a fish oil capsule will also help fill any nutritional gaps. I say this because I know that although they seem to eat constantly eight year olds would live on rubbish given the choice - and its honestly quite hard to monitor their diet. Last year for instance my nephew spent most of his playground time swapping the contents of his highly nutritious lunch box for crisps and penguin bars! Drove his mother mad!!

maybe a glass of milk and some fruit after her training. i dont see a problem giving her protein shakes as its just a food source in my view. but get her into a good habit now of getting down a soild diatery foundation (witch you are doing) and then later in life she,ll be more inclined to not have protein shakes for breakfast and brunch and pre workout and post workout like some of the guys on here!
